When it comes to looking for an apartment, you likely have always had a long list of things that are must-haves for you as well as things that you would like. However, this list likely changed greatly when you went from looking for an apartment just for yourself to looking for an apartment for your family. Having children is a huge game-changer when it comes to your living situation because you want to make sure that all of their needs are met. This article will discuss three things to look for in an apartment rental if you have children.
No Stairs
While stairs may not have been a big deal for you before you had children, they are definitely something that you need to pay attention to now. Going up and down several flights of stairs each day to get into and out of your apartment can be quite difficult if you have one or more children that you will either be carrying or helping up the stairs. Because of this, you should consider looking at apartments that are on the bottom floor. Also, keep in mind that some apartments are going to have stairs located inside of them as well, so make sure that there is a way for you to block these stairs so that your child doesn't fall down them or try to climb up them.
Laundry Room
Going to the laundromat before having kids likely wasn't fun, but it was doable because you were only doing laundry for one or two people. Kids, however, can completely change how you look at laundry because they seem to dirty multiple outfits a day. Since you likely don't want to spend hours each week in a laundromat, it is a good idea to look at apartments that have a laundry room in them. Some apartments come equipped with a washer and dryer, while others simply have the hook-ups. Either way, it is important that you find an apartment that allows you to do as much laundry as you need to as often as you need to.
Dishwasher
It can be incredibly difficult to get things like bottles and sippy cups clean by hand because there are so many little crevices and compartments where the milk and juices can get stuck. This creates a horrible smell and isn't very sanitary for your child. In order to really get dishes clean and smelling good, you are going to need a dishwasher. Some apartments come equipped with dishwashers, and this allows you to easily clean all of your dishes.
