If you find a home that might be perfect aside from the ceilings, this can be an easy fix right before you move in. An inspection of the home will let you know if ceilings are in danger of asbestos. If so, you can make sure you have a specialist remove this. You can then go on to texturing and painting your ceiling, giving this a more modern look.

2. Dated Doors and Cabinets

If doors in cabinets in a home are older or stained dark wood, this can give a home a dated appearance . Try to envision what this will look like with a fresh coat of white paint. This can brighten a home and help update a dated home overall.

3. Wall-to-Wall Carpeting

If you are on the open house circuit, you may run into some homes that have wall-to-wall carpeting. Older carpeting can be discouraging because this can date a home, hold in odors, and might have a dingy appearance. Don't forget that you can rip out flooring and start new. 4. Older Appliances
